The Ranch was built by the Dane Tex Hansen. As a hunting guide and rancher, Tex became quite famous in the Chilcotin District. He fought in a heavyweight fight against Max Schmeling, who would later become the heavy weight world champion. As a hunting and wilderness guide, Tex led numerous people on the elk and bear hunt.
The entire Tex Hansen estate was auctioned off around 1980. The Swiss Hans Bettschen took over land and dwellings and called the property Clearwater Lake Ranch.
In 1994, when the property was bought by Karl-Heinz Seitzinger, there was another name change to Terra Nostra Ranch.
During this time, the ranch was developed to promote tourism and together with today’s Tetachuck Lodge from Trails-Travel, it was expanded, mainly to accommodate group travel.
Christoph Gisler and his family from Switzerland have been the new owners of the Terra Nostra Guest Ranch since March 2013.
